This will enable our exhibitors to finally put some roses onto the show tables and our new judges will have the chance to judge and be assessed towards becoming accredited Rose Society UK judges.

All members are cordially invited to attend the event to observe, question and talk roses for a few hours

Exhibitors may stage roses from 7am until judging at 12 noon after which time there will be plenty of opportunity to talk to some of the UK’s best exhibitors and growers and all things rosy.

We will be serving tea, coffee and soft drinks plus a cream scone or two during the afternoon until 4.30pm. This is a unique chance to meet up and learn from the experts about how to show and grow roses. The afternoon is completely informal; there are no admission fees BUT we must be aware of your intended visit.

The Rose Society UK is delighted to announce that the 2021 recipient of the Dean Hole Medal is;

More than anything, we would like to have the opportunity to actually present the medal to Colin in person.

Hopefully there will be an event soon that we can all meet up so that Colin can receive his medal properly

We are unable to run our 2021 Spring Rose Show at RHS Malvern this year so we have had to change our plans and will this year operate a Virtual Show.

Gardening experts agree that newly planted plants such as roses, will benefit by applying mycorrhisal fungi directly to the roots. Now that bare root planting season is coming to an end, containerised roses will be the objects of our desire throughout the summer.  When planting in a new pot, or into prepared soil, myccorhisal function will help the new rose grow and get established. The Rose Society UK are pleased to announce that MycorrMax from The Nutrient Company, can now be purchased from the society shop in three handy pouch sizes.

It’s not too late to grow your own rose this year! As we start our Spring pruning, we will no doubt find a few hips on the bushes; this is where our new roses come from. Carefully open these hips to reveal the seeds inside and simply plant them as you would any ordinary seed on damp compost and cover with vermiculite or fine sand. Cover them with a lid (it appears that mice like roses as much as we do) and in a few weeks you will have some seedlings that you can grow on to full sized, flowering roses. OK they may not be the world’s best roses but they will be unique and they will be YOURS! Some of the world’s best amateur breeders are members of the Rose Society UK and will be sharing their tips and experience with us soon. Have a go, what have you got to lose?

Bob Martin Talk

Fifty members tuned in to hear Bob’s talk, but sadly several did not manage to log in but all is not lost because members  can see the video by going to the Members Area.

We were so pleased to be able to welcome Bob to our first Zoom event. It was members only but it’s still not too late to sign up – JOIN HERE 

Once again the RHS Malvern Spring Show has fallen victim to Covid 19 restrictions so we have decided to have a Virtual Show.

A new schedule will be drawn up and every one of our members are invited to get shooting with their phones and cameras, once the roses start to flower and send in an entry.

Here’s a little taster  gaffs, false starts and some rose fun in the sun. 

After President Colin Squire handed out Silver Medals to the winners from the society rose 2019 shows the time came to reveal Angela Pawsey as the recipient of the reintroduced Dean Hole Medal.

Honours Committee Chairman Derek Lawrence produced a citation to Angela Pawsey recognising the huge contribution that she had made to the UK rose scene.

This was read out in Derek’s absence by Tracey Miller.
